Being Grateful Can Help You Through Tough Times

Life can sometimes take us through tough times. It can seem that one day you are doing great and on top of the world, then your life takes a downturn. It's in these times that you look around and wonder how you will get through it. You think of all of the things you wish you had that could make your life better. You may wonder if you had a little more money, a better job or able to replace your older model car, your life could be so much better. You may look around at other people that seem to be thriving and you feel stuck, not able to get to the place you long to be. It is just a fact that life is sometimes not fair. We sometimes aren't given the opportunities others have been afforded, but that is no reason to hang your head in defeat. You have many reasons in your life to be grateful.
Think about the many people that are wondering where they will sleep tonight. These people may have fell on hard times and could no longer afford a place to live, and now find themselves homeless. There are others that have a home, but don't have a family that loves and cares for them. They are in this world feeling alone and without hope. There are other people that may have a home, but their refrigerator is bare because they don't have enough money to buy food due to the rising food prices. Think about the people who are sick, but cannot afford health insurance to see a doctor so they suffer with illnesses. Think about the parents that have children that have fell victim to addiction, and they sit by the phone waiting for that dreaded phone call. Think about the elderly and the veterans that can't afford the extra care they need to sustain themselves so they are alone trying to survive with little resources. Think about the single moms and dads that have to make a choice everyday between their jobs and properly caring for their children. Think about the people around the world dealing with the wars in their countries, and live everyday wondering if they will survive.
When you look around at so many others that are struggling with so many obstacles in their lives, then you look at your life and realize that maybe your life is not so bad. You may not have all of things you want in life, but the little you do have, you should be grateful. This world today is caught up in wanting more and more. It seems that it's never enough. There is nothing wrong with striving to make your life better, but along the way you have to be thankful for everything you have accomplished in your life, no matter how small. You should realize that every milestone you achieve is a blessing, and appreciate your home, nature, family, and the many things that you have right in front of you that you sometimes take for granted. Even if times are tough and life is hard, you should find comfort in the many things in your life that you should appreciate. Don't think about how little you have, but the many things you do have that should make you feel abundantly thankful and grateful for the life you have been given, and make the best of what you have. Start a grateful journal, and everyday write in it what you are grateful for. Try to encourage others that are feeling down about the uncertainty in life right now. Encourage them to realize all the things they should be grateful for. We will always sometimes face tough times, but realize that you are doing much better than so many others, and sometimes we just need a little reminder. Everyday is a gift that we should be so very thankful for in spite of the chaotic world around us.
“Great things happen to those who don't stop believing, trying, learning, and being grateful.”
